notwithstandingの意味、使い方
notwithstandingは、「にもかかわらず」という意味です。
金融の世界では、よく契約書に使用されます。
・notwithstanding the conditions of the preceding paragraph
前項に記載された条件にかかわらず
・Notwithstanding anything contained in this contract to the contrary,
本契約においてこれに矛盾する定めがあろうとも
notwithstandingの後に続くのは、「単語」か「節」になります。
notwithstanding A is Bのように、動詞が入ることはないです。
類義語は、in spite ofですが、くだけた感じですね。
同じく類義語で、Howeverやneverthelessも、同じように「にもかかわらず」という意味がありますが、この場合は文章が However A is B, となります。
